Left hand drive cars are found in countries that drive on the right of the road. Right Hand Drive cars feature the steering wheel on the right if sat in the cabin. These cars are found in countries which drive on the left of the road. UK vehicles are Right Hand Drive. In the UK we drive Right hand drive RHD vehicles on the left of the road meaning our headlights are aimed slightly towards the curb.
If this was in a Left-hand drive LHD country, the beam of light would be aiming into the other lane of traffic rather than the curb. This also affects mirror glass and mirror units.
Many of the driver side mirrors in this country feature a convex curved glass to ensure the driver has increased vision, often to cover their rear blind spot. As you can image, just like headlights, this is the opposite side in countries driving on the right with LHD vehicle.
From a habit, going left becomes a tradition and then becoming the law. The left-handed rule was well established in Rome by cities with dense traffic. And left walking is a symbol of aristocratic status. After the French Revolution, the right walking gradually became popular, and it was a symbol of revolution.
And other countries conquered by Napoleon have implemented this right walking system. When a car created a hundred and ten years ago, it used a three-wheeled structure without brake and gearshift equipment. With the increase of vehicle speed, the brakes and gear shifting devices controlled by hand cannot be installed in the cockpit according to the technology at that time, and they must be arranged on the outside of the car body.
At this time, Europeans and carriages maintained the habit of walking on the right. When the car first came out, most of the owners were wealthy people, and they all hired drivers to drive. Due to the increase in car ownership, driving right and driving right affects sight and often causes accidents.
Later, the locomotive gradually adopted the left-hand drive. Henry Ford, the founder of the Ford Motor Company, was the pioneer in changing the driving side. He designed his Model T automobile with the left-hand drive. The success of the model T automobile makes this left-hand-drive system spread all over the world.
In Japan and the UK, it is still left walking. When fighting on horseback, people are accustomed to holding weapons in their right hand, and they must move forward on their left. The problem with this system is that I, as the driver, am almost always reliant on someone else to be wide awake and participating.
If the family falls asleep on a long road I have to wait until the road conditions change enough that I am able to see the oncoming traffic and safely overtake. The other drawback is that there are a few countries which do not allow RHD vehicles to cross their borders.
This can be a massive problem when that country is en route to your destination and there is no way around it. In some cases special RHD permits may be obtained but often not. One solution is to have the RHD vehicle transported on a flat bed truck through the offending country but that is both expensive and obstructive as you will not be able to explore at your own pace. Also consider the following Driving on the left hand side is the correct side to drive on because that is where the Queen drives her Land Rover Defender.
While you are doing that install LED bulbs and a relay so as not to burn out the headlight switch this applies specifically to Tdi and Td5 Defender drivers ,.
